At Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery Chesham, between 16 months and approx. 2 years old, children are welcomed into and enjoy a space in Tweenies that matches their inquisitiveness as they begin to explore the world around them in more depth. Our room allows those taking their first steps to help strengthen their steps and develop their motor skills with well-considered furnishings like our steps, slide and real like home corner to broaden their curiosity of the world around them.

As your child grows, we want to help encourage and build their independence, starting to learn to do new things and develop their fine and gross motor skills. While still reliant on adults to help with their activities and play is eased slightly and we ensure that each team member has no more than three children to support at any one time. By doing this, we really start to see the development and growth in the children at this age and stage thrive.

Tweenies continue to develop with a focus on the three prime areas and we begin to introduce four more specific areas that support their growing enthusiasm for exploring their world as they approach two years of age and transition to our toddler room. These are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive art and design

As our Tweenies go about their play our staff include texts, books, sounds and numbers around them, promoting your child’s curiosity and starting to lay the foundations for their future learning.

There will always be space and opportunity for them to create their own work and art, being encouraged to have a go themselves inspired by the world around them.
